Prologue
Testing...
This is a new site as of May 2026. This document
may get revised a few times as I focus in. It is intended to be a
brief introduction as to my background, intentions for the site, and
some ground rules. As I add to the site, I’ll open up some topics
for discussion, but violation of any rules I establish will result in
jettisoning the “participant” out the airlock.
Who are
you?
Just a guy who’s made it to his granted “three shore and
ten” mark in somewhat functional shape. I have no expectation of
entitlement beyond that.
Why this site?
I have
participated in social media before, but many are becoming
obnoxiously untenable. Some of them have expired as time and tech
move on. Facebook was one of my last bastions, but the current
(mis)management is wildly inexcusable. So I (finally) managed to
reserve a domain where I can put some ideas and comments without
being “massaged” by those with their own agenda.
What
type of content do you intend?
I’d like to focus on opinions
or practical knowledge with (I hope) some relevance to others. What
that may mean… well, we’ll see. I expect some “philosophical”
diatribes, but also stories and maybe advice running to my primary
interests and hobbies: tech, music, and a few other things.
What
are the ground rules?
Well, let’s start with these, and see
what revisions become necessary…
Politics and
Religion
The first “no, don’t ever talk about that!”
categories. But sometimes you have to. So let me say: don’t bring
either up outside of a specific discussion. Propaganda (unproven and
especially provably false statements) and proselytization
specifically are paths to the (bad side of) the airlock. In
particular, I will say any support for the current US administration
is not an acceptable topic. I am not opposed to expressions of
religious affiliations or beliefs, but they have no place in
unrelated intellectual discussions. (That is, I don’t want to see
“all glory to <deity>” posts about victories or losses.
[I’m working on mote specific boundaries here.]
I still
socialize and work with people who, I am sure, have strong opinions
in these areas. I was very conservative when younger, and still lean
that way in certain instances. I have moved toward more liberal
alignments as the conservative (or, more accurately, reactionary)
disciples have tried to codify repression and abuse as “their
rights”. I also believe religious beliefs are your right until you
base entitlement upon them. I’m not supporting that in any context.
End of discussion.
Courtesy
Conversations should be
respectful and civil. I have personally long held that insults and
coarse depiction of others, especially with profanity and
name-calling are invoked, are a sign of a weak intellect.. (Though
subject to them myself, I will admit.) You have time to review your
thoughts and phrasing before submitting a comment; use
it.
Promotion
This is not a site for sales or
promotions; at least not yet. I may consider some sort of limited
ability once I get familiar with the host’s capabilities.
I
may comment on items I find useful (or denigrate ones I do not). I
will expressly identify any I have a financial stake in, though I amy
not anticipating that any time soon. One reason I am doing this is to
escape the onerous number of random ads and promotions I see
elsewhere.
Let me make clear: as of yet, I am guaranteeing
nothing in terms of value for this endeavor, and therefore the amount
of weight I commit to giving others is zero. That said: I’d like to
hear your opinions and eventually may be able to incorporate them to
how things get done here.
This is sort of a start. Now I
need to get to other things.
